Simple way to start meditating

(This is for my friend who’s afraid to start meditating because she “doesn’t know how”…)

For some reason, there’s still this idea going around that meditation should be done in a certain way. I thought I was the last person who thought that way before I started meditating years ago. Then today, when my friend told me that she doesn’t meditate because she “doesn’t know how to do it”, I realized that there must be more people out there who share her opinion.

This also made me want to figure out why I used to think that meditation should be done in a certain way and I did! And yes, you guessed it! It was pure ignorance. I judged it based on other people’s thoughts and experiences. I thought I needed to do meditate the way Deepak does. I got upset every time I read another book or watched another person meditate because it never matched with my experience, thoughts and feelings during meditation. Then, I started doing it “my way”… That did the trick. We all need to find a way to do what pleases us and makes us happy, think the way only we know how and why, and feel what our own heart is telling us. Meditation is one way to do it.

I won’t write about meditation (as you can find that everywhere on Internet), I just want to let people know that everybody can do it. And you shouldn’t be doing it like other people, you should do it in your own, unique way. Meditation is not straight forward like math, where 2+2=4 regardless of who you are and where you live. It’s much more than that, but in a different way. It’s an inside job! It’s awareness. It’s a way of being. A way of doing things throughout your day. A way of cherishing your every breath, every being that comes into your life. It becomes everything. It becomes you.

All you need to do is start with a basic meditation a few minutes a day and the rest will fall into place. Don’t let others scare you by telling you how you should meditate. There’s plenty of definitions made for us already. I think it’s time we define things and experiences for ourselves. We all live in an outside world of “isms”, labeling and a number of other things that we can’t control, so meditation is the time – and yes, a lifestyle – where we get to go to our inner world and do what we want (or nothing at all), be ourselves and think with our own beautiful, unique mind. Better yet, maybe not think at all!

I get into a place where I don’t think at all. This is where the magic happens. The benefits of meditation last pretty much throughout the day for some people, others may need (or want) to meditate a couple of times a day. You design your own way. You get to create your own experience.

Now, if you’ve never tried meditating, you may need to listen to a few different people guiding you through a meditation until you figure out how to do it on your own. Take away what you like and leave behind everything else. I’d encourage everybody to find their own “sweet spot” and meditate on their own for a while. As you go on, your mind and heart will guide you deeper and further, if you need to change something. From that point on, you won’t need anybody to tell you what to do. Your own self is all you need.

I’ve tried many meditations over the years, but if I were doing it again, I’d start here:

And another one:

Best of luck…. Let me know how you like these and what you’ve experienced.

Dr. Joe Dispenza-Researcher, Chiropractor, Lecturer and Author

about_drjoeI first learned about Dr. Joe Dispenza a few months ago, during the Hay House World Summit 2016. I had to rewind his interview a few times because he was just offering a bunch of information about the relationship of the mind and body. I like science and I think that I’m spiritual, and Dr. Dispenza combines these two fields in a way that makes sense for people who are not necessarily knowledgeable or educated in either area.

After listening to his first interview, I went on YouTube and then found just about every podcast that featured him. There is plenty to find… I spent some 40-50 hours listening to him (and yes, you’re right, I don’t work ;-0). Has anybody listened to Dr. Dispenza’s meditations? I’ve tried many different guided meditations and, all I can say is, this one is very different. I’ve never had such a vivid picture of “things” the way I have during his meditations. Here’s a YouTube version for those of you who want to get a taste of it.

He first got the public’s attention when he was featured as one of the scientists featured in the award-winning film What the bleep do we know. It’s embarrassing but I didn’t know about that film until then. Well, guess what happened? I went to my video store and ordered a copy right away. Needless to say, I loved it. You will be reading the review of that movie soon.

As you know, I’m not an expert in the field so there’s no need to write stories repeatedly. I just want to pass information to those who are sick or not feeling well for any reason and might need a person like Dr. Dispenza to bring them that much better and at least one bit closer to their well-being.

He has written a number of books, but I’m ordering “You are the placebo” first. I also  want to go to one of his workshops, or attend one online. He sure has a lot to offer and it’s hard to pick just one or two of anything. Can I just have it all???

Thank you for reading…

Here are some of the books recomended by some of the leading edge functional/alternative medicine doctors: One Spirit Medicine: Ancient Ways to Ultimate Wellness by Alberto Villoldo Ph.D.,  You Are the Placebo: Making Your Mind Matter by Dr. Joe Dispenza, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy: The Heart of the Practice by Michael J Shea PhD, The Paleo Cardiologist: The Natural Way to Heart Health by Jack Wolfson, The Truth About Statins: Risks and Alternatives to Cholesterol-Lowering Drugs Mass Market by Barbara H. Last week, my doctor wanted to check my cholesterol. I did the blood work and the day after, I receive an urgent message from her to make an appointment with her ASAP. Why, you ask? Well, my cholesterol was sky high, 400+.

(My doctor was alarmed more than I, maybe rightly so because I do have a few “health checkmarks” :-). She immediately wanted me to go see a nutritionist and a dietitian. Well, I went to that appointment today and found out that I already eat everything they want me to eat, except that I have lean read meat 3-4 times a month. That shouldn’t be making my cholesterol go crazy, right? She gave me a few books to read: Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease and Forks Over Knives).

My gut feeling told me that my high cholesterol is due to stress, both mental and physical. The day after, I was listening to Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride on Microbiome Summit talk about her book #1 Best Seller on Amazon, Gut and Psychology Syndrome: Natural Treatment for Autism, Dyspraxia, A.D.D., Dyslexia, A.D.H.D., Depression, Schizophrenia in which she talks about her well know GAPS diet. I loved her story and passion so much that I went to check out her website right away. I also ordered her other book Put Your Heart in Your Mouth: Natural Treatment for Atherosclerosis, Angina, Heart Attack, High Blood Pressure, Stroke, Arrhythmia, Peripheral Vascular Disease. By now, the only thing I can tell for sure is that my favorite doc likes long titles :-).

You know what I found on her website? For the first time ever, I read that cholesterol goes up when your body is in a healing process. Nobody’s told me this before. Right away, I’ve decided to believe this and make it “my truth”. Don’t care who says what. I’ve had two surgeries in the past two months and my body is still healing. Makes sense to me. Traditional doctors don’t take the whole body (and mind) into account. Instead, the medications are prescribed left and right. This is when I decided to look for a functional medicine doctor. I’ll keep you posted.

I decided not to take my statin. I’ll keep meditating, walking and doing little bit of yoga to gain back my physical and, yes, mental strength. I truly believe that I can heal myself!!!

Stay tuned and watch me take my cholesterol level down without meds!

You gotta admit, THAT is the best attitude one can have… 😉

“Gut and Psychology Syndrome: Natural Treatment for Autism, Dyspraxia, A.D.D., Dyslexia, A.D.H.D., Depression, Schizophrenia” review

I feel blessed today. I was listening to the Microbiome Summit guest speaker Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride and, oh boy was I pleasantly surprised. I’ve been re-playing the interview with her 4 times today. I just can’t get enough of what she has to say. She’s an encyclopedia, literally. I immediately went to her website to check out her books and decided to buy them.

Gut and Psychology Syndrome: Natural Treatment for Autism, Dyspraxia, A.D.D., Dyslexia, A.D.H.D., Depression, Schizophrenia is a book about healing and restoring the gut flora. She clearly says that it’s not a diet but a self-help programme for treating diseases. I needed this book 10 years ago.

And since she’s so good and I trust her completely, I’m going to reverse my heart health with her second book “Put Your Heart in Your Mouth: Natural Treatment for Atherosclerosis, Angina, Heart Attack, High Blood Pressure, Stroke, Arrhythmia, Peripheral Vascular Disease“.

“What the heck is a microbiome???”

That’s what I said when I first heard the word. The spell check doesn’t recognize it either and that made me feel much better.

The word microbiome is a collection of microbes or microorganisms that inhabit an environment, creating a sort of community or a mini-ecosystem. Our human microbiome is made up of communities of symbiotic, commensal and pathogenic bacteria, along with fungi and viruses. Scientists have recently started to understand that the overall health of our microbiome determines whether pathogens in the gut cause disease or coexist peacefully.

Microbiome Medicine Summit: 33 health experts are sharing invaluable new, cutting edge health information related to our microbiome that you most likely won’t hear from your doctor. I’ve enjoyed every single story and information they shared so far, but my favorite was Summer Bock. She’s an expert on fermenting foods and, unlike me, she could explain the benefits of fermentation from a scientific point of view.

We are all busy and it’s hard to find time to listen to these talks, but they made it very convenient for us. You can load a low-resolution video or audio file and listen to it while cooking, cleaning, driving, etc. I listen to mine when I go for my daily walks. Plus, there are going to be FREE gifts offered by some of the guest speakers.

Well, it’s been a while… I’ve learned a lot about myself and the way things work here, on this planet, in this physical life.

The most important thing I’ve learned (and believe now) is that we really can heal ourselves, and that we only need to figure out how to do it right. I’ve believed this for some time now but every now and then, things happen to me too and I get a little pain here and there. Why? Why don’t I just practice what I preach? I’ve been asking myself this question every now and then and I think that sometimes, I just plain don’t “remember” that I am able to heal myself. It all started with that little paper cut that I watched heal, bit by bit…

Most of us were conditioned to believe that “intentional” healing is impossible, or that it’s something that either doesn’t happen at all (terminal illness), or that only doctors can help you heal, or we think it’s a miracle from God.

To some, the ability to heal is a miracle; to others-it’s just another thing they’ve learned to do in life. Actually, it’s not that we need to learn that we can, I think that we need to “unlearn” that we can’t.

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.”
― Henry Ford

Those  who are keeping up to date with new discoveries must’ve heard many cases about science is constantly confirming this fact.

Come back every now and then for detailed information on different modalities about the ability to heal yourself…
