CHOLESTEROL-RICH FOODS DON’T CAUSE HEART DISEASE

Last week, my doctor wanted to check my cholesterol. I did the blood work and the day after, I receive an urgent message from her to make an appointment with her ASAP. Why, you ask? Well, my cholesterol was sky high, 400+.

(My doctor was alarmed more than I, maybe rightly so because I do have a few “health checkmarks” :-). She immediately wanted me to go see a nutritionist and a dietitian. Well, I went to that appointment today and found out that I already eat everything they want me to eat, except that I have lean read meat 3-4 times a month. That shouldn’t be making my cholesterol go crazy, right? She gave me a few books to read: Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease and Forks Over Knives).

My gut feeling told me that my high cholesterol is due to stress, both mental and physical. The day after, I was listening to Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride on Microbiome Summit talk about her book #1 Best Seller on Amazon, Gut and Psychology Syndrome: Natural Treatment for Autism, Dyspraxia, A.D.D., Dyslexia, A.D.H.D., Depression, Schizophrenia in which she talks about her well know GAPS diet. I loved her story and passion so much that I went to check out her website right away. I also ordered her other book Put Your Heart in Your Mouth: Natural Treatment for Atherosclerosis, Angina, Heart Attack, High Blood Pressure, Stroke, Arrhythmia, Peripheral Vascular Disease. By now, the only thing I can tell for sure is that my favorite doc likes long titles :-).

You know what I found on her website? For the first time ever, I read that cholesterol goes up when your body is in a healing process. Nobody’s told me this before. Right away, I’ve decided to believe this and make it “my truth”. Don’t care who says what. I’ve had two surgeries in the past two months and my body is still healing. Makes sense to me. Traditional doctors don’t take the whole body (and mind) into account. Instead, the medications are prescribed left and right. This is when I decided to look for a functional medicine doctor. I’ll keep you posted.

I decided not to take my statin. I’ll keep meditating, walking and doing little bit of yoga to gain back my physical and, yes, mental strength. I truly believe that I can heal myself!!!

“What the heck is a microbiome???”

That’s what I said when I first heard the word. The spell check doesn’t recognize it either and that made me feel much better.

The word microbiome is a collection of microbes or microorganisms that inhabit an environment, creating a sort of community or a mini-ecosystem. Our human microbiome is made up of communities of symbiotic, commensal and pathogenic bacteria, along with fungi and viruses. Scientists have recently started to understand that the overall health of our microbiome determines whether pathogens in the gut cause disease or coexist peacefully.

Microbiome Medicine Summit: 33 health experts are sharing invaluable new, cutting edge health information related to our microbiome that you most likely won’t hear from your doctor. I’ve enjoyed every single story and information they shared so far, but my favorite was Summer Bock. She’s an expert on fermenting foods and, unlike me, she could explain the benefits of fermentation from a scientific point of view.

We are all busy and it’s hard to find time to listen to these talks, but they made it very convenient for us. You can load a low-resolution video or audio file and listen to it while cooking, cleaning, driving, etc. I listen to mine when I go for my daily walks. Plus, there are going to be FREE gifts offered by some of the guest speakers.

Well, it’s been a while… I’ve learned a lot about myself and the way things work here, on this planet, in this physical life.

The most important thing I’ve learned (and believe now) is that we really can heal ourselves, and that we only need to figure out how to do it right. I’ve believed this for some time now but every now and then, things happen to me too and I get a little pain here and there. Why? Why don’t I just practice what I preach? I’ve been asking myself this question every now and then and I think that sometimes, I just plain don’t “remember” that I am able to heal myself. It all started with that little paper cut that I watched heal, bit by bit…

Most of us were conditioned to believe that “intentional” healing is impossible, or that it’s something that either doesn’t happen at all (terminal illness), or that only doctors can help you heal, or we think it’s a miracle from God.

To some, the ability to heal is a miracle; to others-it’s just another thing they’ve learned to do in life. Actually, it’s not that we need to learn that we can, I think that we need to “unlearn” that we can’t.

Those  who are keeping up to date with new discoveries must’ve heard many cases about science is constantly confirming this fact.
